Document Review and Drafting

Whether you are a homeowner or small business owner, having the proper contracts and understanding their terms is important to ensure your interests are fully protected.  When you purchase a home, you are required to sign a thick stack of papers and there are laws that require most real estate transactions to be in writing to be enforceable.  Homeowner’s Associations have lengthy Declarations and Bylaws that set forth rules and restrictions for everyone in the community.  Small business owners may enter into contracts with vendors or landlords and it is not uncommon for leases to now be over 20 pages.  Many of these documents are written by lawyers and the specific language of the documents can have very significant consequences for the parties to the contract.  As such, having an experienced attorney review and draft legal documents is critically important.

How much does it cost to have documents drafted?

The costs for drafting basic documents is often lower than you would anticipate as an experienced attorney is able to draw off of documents drafted for other clients and do not need to “re-invent the wheel” for every document.  For example, below are some various documents and our fees for drafting basic versions of these documents.

Assignment of Mortgage $100.00
Basic Note and Mortgage (or DOT) $250.00
Basic Employment Agreement $200.00
Eviction Notice $100.00
Independent Contractor Agreement $200.00
Lease w/Purchase Option $400.00
Mechanic’s Lien Statement $100.00
Partnership or Shareholder Agreement $500.00
Quit Claim or Warranty Deed $100.00
Real Estate Purchase Contract $250.00
Residential Lease Agreement $200.00

How much does it cost to have documents reviewed?

For a quick document review and 30-minute follow-up consultation to discuss the document, my standard rate is $15/per each page of the document to be reviewed.  With this option, you will not receive written comments regarding the document following the consultation.  For a more in-depth review using track changes to suggests edits and/or a memo discussing the legal effects of the document, I charge $25 per each page of the document to be reviewed.
